Life in the time of refuge – Virtual Reality document

Life in the Time of Refuge is a 10 minute Virtual Reality film shot exclusively with the Nokia OZO camera. It had an initial showing at the United Nations High Commissioners Dialogues in Geneva in the presence of Omar, his father, and the Deputy High Commissioner. The video has interesting features. The film can also be viewed as a 360 version on laptops and other terminals either on Facebook360, or on YouTube .

By using Nokia’s OZO camera and innovative production techniques, the film makers are transporting viewers virtually into the real life experience of Omar, a young Syrian refugee, highlighting the value and importance of resettlement for refugees. The OZO allows viewers to sense and feel the true situation that many refugees go through in their struggle for a better life. Virtual Reality allows the film makers the capacity to create a much greater empathy with real people in real situations, making the experience more personal than traditional 2-dimensional film making. Virtual Reality, and other immersive technologies, along with traditional technologies, create shared value, with the potential to drive positive change in people’s lives.

Nokia has aquired partner ship with Disney to help explore the creation of VR content for our theatrical releases.
